I was incarcerated in massachusetts for over 21 years. during that time i remember that there was a lawsuit regarding phone calls to family on the outside. i remember when the cost of phone calls dropped dramatically, making calling family and friends much more affordable. calling across massachusetts cost less than three dollars for a twenty minute call at the time i left in the summer of 2008. i could attempt to discover the name of the suit that was filed, and possibly the outcome if prompted. i do know that it was filed in federal court and was litigated with the aid of prison friendly attorneys. i really don't know much about that one, because i was not personally involved in that case. if there is any information relative to suits being filed, be sure to post it and to spread the word among prisoners' families and friends so that people can work together to get rid of these overbearing companies that exploit the poorest. any info would greatly assist in my gathering efforts.

Global Tel Link is actually better than what Texas uses for their calls if you live out of state. With tax and everything else. I pay almost $8 for a 15 minute call to my husband. He is incarcerated in Texas and I live in Oklahoma.

I just found out yesterday by speaking with Global Tel Link customer support that each call I receive on my T-Mobile cell phone from my inmate housed in a California jail is costing me $14.50!!!!! I was in total shock! I have only received ONE phone call since adding my initial $25 to my 'account'. I asked again "so the $25 that I just paid into my account yesterday..how much is left of it??" customer support: "5 dollars" I had to ask him how that calculation worked out... he then tells me there's a 4.50 fee for adding money to the account. This is absolutely ridiculous!!!!
